Kasting

A casting demonstration event

It was a collaborative event of Metamorph (Metallurgy Dept. Committee) with SAE-NITK where the full casting process was explained. Starting with the making of the sand mold to the final quenching process of the model. In the casting demo other things related to casting such as casting defects, quenching process, types of casting process were also explained. It was a hands-on event where students understood the casting process and were asked to execute some of the involved procedures. 


SAE-TechBuzz

SAE released its first edition of the automotive magazine “SAE Techbuzz“.

The magazine has articles related to modern developments in automotive technologies like electric vehicles, hyperloop, automated driving etc. The articles were written by students from the third and final year. Its hard copy was distributed among deans, professors etc., and soft copy was made available online. The magazine was well received by the college students.



MATLAB Workshop

A workshop was organized by the club on the MATLAB software. It was a 2-day event, and the mentors talked about scalar, vector operations, plotting, optimization, cell, and multi-dimensional arrays and scripts and functions. The event started with the advent of our club member who started the event by showing the steps to proceed with the software installation, followed by some basic interface options for acclimatizing the audience with the software. The workshop saw the participation of around 50 enthusiastic B.tech, M.Tech, and PhD students.



SAE Keynote Talks

A first of a kind event from the club, SAE organized a 3-day keynote talk series from 28th to 30th Jan 2020. Speakers from companies like Robert Bosch Engineering, 3M India Ltd. and Continental Automotive presided over the event having expertise over topics such as automotive vehicles, smart materials, and hybrid / non-hybrid electric vehicles. The event  saw the participation of many enthusiasts from all years, both undergraduate and postgraduate.

SAE-NITK is a technical club for the automotive enthusiasts, dealing in projects related to the same. SAE-NITK not only enhances an individual’s technical knowledge but also improves their managerial skills through its events and other activities conducted by the members as a team. Students from all disciplines and backgrounds who have an interest in automobiles and emerging technologies, including electric vehicles, hybrid vehicles and autonomous systems, get a platform to learn about the same through relevant projects and experience. Members of SAE-NITK also get a subscription of SAE magazines and their exclusive articles which greatly expand a person’s knowledge and give a more detailed insight into the various sub-fields. The club has a three step recruitment process. The first round is a written test based on concepts used in the working of automobiles, followed by a technical interview and finally an HR interview. Club members are allowed to propose their project ideas and work on them with a bunch of interested members improving their leadership and communication skills along with the technical aspects.
